iPad Review-Class DoJo

Name of App: Class DoJo
Skill  Area: Classroom Management
Grades appropriate: Ages 4+

Class DoJo is great for easily awarding both merits and demerits based on classroom conduct.

The application can be accessed from you iDevice or Android. The collected data can be shared with parents and administrators and the younger kids get a kick out of picking their own monster avatars. I plan to use this application in my classroom. We currently use it in the Resource class that I am a paraprofessional in and it promotes positive behavior among the students. They strive to see who can be awarded the most merits by the end of the week. This application is a great way to help build positive classroom culture by encouraging the students.

AppTutor

Name of app: AppTutor
Skill Area: Math
Grades that would be appropriate: Elementary School students

A series of math apps for elementary school that encourages students to “learn-try-test”.

I would use AppTutor in my classroom to help promote fun math learning. The app includes games, free worksheets, and even math tutoring. The free worksheets are easy to access and print. The worksheets are sorted by Grade and Subject online. The worksheets would be great for extra practice. The math apps include interactive math practice that makes math fun while learning.  The math games include stories, games and songs. The apps can also be accessed with Android.

Jack & the Beanstalk by Nosy Crow

Name of App: Jack and the Beanstalk by Nosy Crow
Skill Area: Made for ages 6-8
Grades that would be appropriate: 1st-3rd grades

https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/jack-beanstalk-by-nosy-crow/id796383629?mt=8

  • Developer:
An app that not only focuses on reading, but also some interactive gaming. The voice narration is from children, not grown-ups.

This app would be a great addition to any classroom to encourage children to read while playing a game. The app features exciting reading and gaming experiences, while offering real consequences throughout the story.  What better way to grasp a child’s attention than through gaming. It will seem more like a game instead of a learning experience, but you will get the best of both worlds.

Math Fact Master

The iPad app that I chose to review is Math Fact Master: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division from 50 of the Best Teaching and Learning Apps for 2016. This app is easy to navigate for all grade school children. You can use it in flashcard mode or have the children type in the correct answer. You also have the option of choosing a limited number of profiles to monitor each child’s progress. It also keeps a progress report that can be emailed for review. It begins at the beginner level but the difficulty can be increased.
It’s rated for ages 4+ and covers a combination of operators and number sets. This app would be appropriate for pre-school thru 4th grade students.
I would definitely give this app a try. This app would be great to pull up on the smart board and use as a review tool. The flash card portion of the app would make a perfect game to quiz the students before testing day. The fact that it is able to keep up with progress is also a plus.
